Only 35% of 12th graders in the United States read at grade level. SPI offers written proof of literacy in action and effective education in the world. With your support, students will develop the critical skills they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

SPI’s work is made possible by the support of pioneering donors who share a commitment to effective teaching and empowering young people through education.

SPI has over a dozen years of experience working in some of the nation’s toughest schools. We specialize in meeting the needs of underserved, at-risk and incarcerated youth and we work with teachers across the country, dedicated to helping students raise their reading and writing skills through oral history, profile writing, and social justice initiatives.

Your support helps SPI:

  • Develop go-to Curriculum Guides and Digital Tutorials for teachers
  • Host intensive Summer Institutes for teachers and other educational leaders
  • Offer collaborative coaching and support to educators
  • Provide web-based mentoring and professional development
  • Establish local school partnerships and remote classroom projects
  • Produce student and teacher publications - hardcopy and online
  • Sponsor readings, panel discussions, and community events with educators across the nation
